2007 GMC Trucks: Sierra

By:

Published: September 27, 2007

For the year 2007, General Motors has offered an excellent line-up of GMC trucks, its latest models of the highly-adaptable pick-up trucks. The GMC trucks, led by the Sierra, are expected to give the Ford F-Series even stiffer competition.

Actually, based on records held by General Motors, the GMC trucks actually outsell the Ford F-Series in the pick-up truck business. Although last year, most GMC trucks, notably the Chevrolet Silverado line, were ranked only in second place in terms of US sales of the pick-up truck variety; the top spot being given to the Ford F-Series. For 2007, GMC trucks appear determined to dislodge Ford from its lofty position. These are clearly seen in the many significant changes effected on the latest model: the Sierra.

The same GMC trucks engine type is essentially still being carried by the Sierra, which is the V8 variety. The big change comes in the transmission system, as the Sierra now sports a highly-improved six-gear transmission in automatic settings. Making this particular line even more powerful is its horsepower capacity, now placed at the incredible 400 mark.

The GMC trucks, admittedly, did not adopt major changes in the hardware department. Rather, General Motors focused on the design, with the Sierra consequently benefiting much from the decision.

In particular, the front portion of the Sierra features a square-jawed, rectilinear appearance, thereby helping this variety project a muscular and powerful presence. These are easily seen in the wide hood and in its attractive fenders located both in front and at the back.

Historically, the Sierra is one GMC trucks series that has always shared several common features with another popular GMC trucks model, the Chevrolet. Some people believe that Chevrolet is the more popular brand of GMC trucks. The Sierra, obviously a lesser-known GMC trucks variety, has had to content itself living under the wings of its more prominent sister.

For 2007, the set-up of these two sister, but competing, GMC trucks is not expected to change significantly, especially since they both presently sport several identical features. These include rear-based power windows that conveniently drop down to the nearby rear-based doors. Additionally, the rear-based power windows come in double-joint settings, enabling them to open up at 170 degree angles.

Still, despite these basic similarities, the two famous GMC trucks do have their own set of distinguishing qualities. This is an area General Motors has decided to concentrate on in the past few years, simply for the purpose of making sure that both GMC trucks will eventually develop their respective followings.

This has apparently worked in favor of both GMC trucks, as they each have their own audience, with the two lines catering to different types of pick-up trucks enthusiasts. The Chevrolets, for one, are GMC trucks that cater more to regular truck buyers wanting a recreational vehicle. The Sierras, meanwhile, are GMC trucks preferred by truck buyers interested in hauling various heavy materials. Whichever model is preferred, no driver can go wrong with either.
